Why hire a professional organiser?

They bring a fresh perspective and live & breathe all things organisation.

An outside perspective can be valuable as there isn’t a vested interest in any of the items you’re working with - this is especially important when you’re keen to downsize the number of belongings in your home. Also, it can be easier for someone who is new to a space to spot what is and isn’t working for you in that space and why.

I have tips and tricks and all kinds of helpful knowledge up my sleeve to help you overcome any obstacle you might encounter in the organising process. You’ll make efficient use of your time and you’ll be guaranteed to achieve your goals more quickly than you would have done alone.

What does the organising process involve?

A consultation, a plan of attack and lots of decision making.

An in-home consultation is best, but a phone consultation will suffice for smaller organising projects.

Once I know what areas of your home we’ll be working on, together we’ll come up with a plan of attack. We’ll go over this together, to ensure it meets your needs and then we’ll get to work, to get you where you want to be with the space in your home.

Will I need to buy a bunch of storage items?

Not yet! And maybe not at all.

It’s best not to get ahead of yourself by purchasing storage containers before we go through the organising process, especially if you’ll be reducing the number & volume of belongings. This is because you won’t know exactly what belongings you’ll have left, how much will be left and how you’ll want everything stored.

You might find that you want to buy some bits and pieces once you know what belongings you want to keep, but remember not to get carried away. We don’t want to replace your discarded belongings with lots of niche storage containers and filing systems. We may hit the storage, DIY or stationery store as a part of our process of working together, but hold off on having a shop until then.

How much will I have to throw out?

That’s up to you.

If we are doing a Downsize & organise together I will ask you questions along the way and challenge your thinking in regard to items you’ve been holding onto. You might find that you need to make some tough decisions, but you’ll be taking the lead and making all the choices. The end goal is for you to feel that you are keeping only items that are useful to you, or that are truly treasures.

What if I don’t want to throw anything out?

That’s okay! You don’t have to.

We can focus on organising what you have. Even if you don’t want to discard anything, there’ll be ways to better organise your belongings and streamline your living spaces.

How will I stay organised?

ShipShape Home will give you the tools you need to stay organised.

I will give you a personalised list of pointers to help you stay on top of things. Going forward, you might choose to be more deliberate when it comes to what items you bring into your home. If that’s the case, I can provide you with some information to help you on your way & to ensure you stay on track.

If you find that any of the systems we put in place aren’t quite working for you, we can re-evaluate and adjust them accordingly.
